My mission statementThe times we are working in now need a great deal of accelerated change and there must be no negotiating that down. So my mission statement for this part of my consultancy career is to be clear that there needs to be and will be a lot of change from the work that I do with individuals and organisations and if organisations don’t want that, then it is probably best to go somewhere else.

I mentioned that the Confed had been full of certainties about how the Secretary of State was in big trouble and that he would not be able to bring out the Government’s White Paper. July 7th has seen the first of the attacks from both sides that the Government health team will experience for the duration of their stay in charge of the Department. How they deal with both of these attacks will determine whether their stay in charge of the NHS is measured in weeks or years. All of these systems have become used to increases in resources that have more than kept pace with the increased demand for health care caused by an aging population and increased public expectations. Whilst the July White Paper on the NHS will be talking about the spending of £100 billion of public money on NHS commissioning of health care, it can probably be written with just a nod in the direction of other Government Departments. But this public health paper could end up being more important BOTH for what is left of the Department for Health and other Government Departments. |
